Slideshare would be a great way for students to create presentations and upload them to the class blog or their own personal blog. It would also be a great tool for students to upload an electronic portfolio. Personally, I will be using Slideshare as a learning resource to educate myself on new Web 2.0 tools.
I recently read something to the effect of "You know that PowerPoint you spent 3 hours on last night? Well, someone else has already done that one, and they did it better than you." So why do teachers insist on reinventing the wheel? It would save us time in the long run to find and share the excellent (not the mediocre or awful) PowerPoints that others have uploaded. We might even be able to download and edit the mediocre ones. Anything is better than starting with a blank slide.
